The Live Watch lets me track dozens of variables without breakpoints, the breakpoints themselves are snappy, the callstack and register windows are easy to navigate and accurate, the terminal works extremely well with SWO to log extremely large amounts of data, and I can run the disassembler next to the source code to dig into the assembly. I use IAR with the J-Link Segger, and it's absolutely rock solid compared to anything else I've ever used. But the real prize is the debugging experience. I like their MCU headers and the project configuration process. It's not flashy, but it's built entirely for embedded development.
Is IAR better than Eclipse? In my opinion I believe so.

In fact I'd be doing the same if I didn't happen to snag a cheap license to use at home (I don't get the yearly subscription though, fuck it's expensive). I understand fully why Eclipse is seen in a positive light around here, as I suspect most subscribers are hobbyists or in small businesses.
Everything from tiny boards with a few relays, A2D Sensors, I2C EEPROM, and a couple LEDs (fortunately not much assembly), to large-scale projects with RTOSs, VGA displays, Ethernet, Wifi, ModBus, BACnet, MQTT, HTTP Servers/Clients, SSL, custom protocols, you name it. Even used the kickstarter versions for cost-sensitive MSP430 and EFM8SB1 (8051) projects. Over the years, the vast majority of projects have been ARM MCUs (LPC1758, LPC1113, K60s, STM32F0s, STM32F2s, STM32F4s, etc). Personally, I have used IAR professionally for almost a decade now. It's good to see such a variety of replies.
